About Shropshire Veterinary Physiotherapy

Shropshire Veterinary Physiotherapy is run by Pauline Hughes, a fully qualified and insured Veterinary Physiotherapist: BSc (hons); PgD Eq Sc; PgD Vet Phys; Dip MCAM

Pauline grew up on a farm and has always had an affinity with animals. She learned to ride at an early age and has competed in disciplines such as eventing and dressage, as well as becoming a qualified British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor. She explains that the experience as a rider is invaluable in developing remedial exercise programmes to help horse owner’s progress with their animals.

Pauline qualified initially with a BSc (hons) in Agricultural Biochemistry, closely followed by a PgD in Equine Science from the Veterinary School in Dublin. She has worked in a variety of roles within the equine industry from sales and marketing through to lecturing at Walford and Rodbaston Colleges. During 2009, Pauline completed a Diploma in McTimoney-Corley Animal Manipulation from Oxford College of Physical Therapy, and has been treating musculoskeletal problems in horses and dogs since then. More recently, she has gained a PgD in Veterinary Physiotherapy, and has been accepted as a member of the prestigious National Association of Veterinary Physiotherpists, approved by vets and pet insurance companies.

Pauline is interested in spinal problems in horses and dogs, and research into physiotherapy and remedial exercises to improve the spinal stabilising musculature.

“I first met Pauline 3 years ago when she came to treat my mare who had some serious musculoskeletal issues from old injuries. My mare is not the easiest to handle, but Pauline very quickly gained her trust and was able to improve her mobility and range of movement.”
